Best 3 Wheel scooter for 6-12 year old children
There are a lot of children aged 5 + who prefer to have a 3 wheel scooter and feel more comfortable with the extra stability these scooters have over 2 wheel alternatives. There are an increasing number of 3 wheel scooters available for the 5-8 year old age range which reflects the increase in their popularity. We have selected some of the current favourites covering the more expensive as well as some of the cheaper models available.
Maxi Micro Scooter
This is probably the most expensive 3 wheel scooter you could buy your child but you get a lot for your money! It is a very well built, good quality scooter and will last a long time even with heavy use. An added bonus is that every part of the scooter can be replaced meaning that if one bit does break or wear out you can replace and extend the life of the scooter for added value.
The Maxi Micro scooter is for children aged 6 -12 years old. It has the lean to steer mechanism which was invented by Micro Scooters. It is made of lightweight Aluminium so is easy to move around and carry. The height of the handlebars can be adjusted so the scooter can grow with your child. The Maxi Micro scooter doesn’t fold but the handlebar can be removed from the footplate of the scooter quickly for easy storage or transporting.
The price of this scooter varies with colour and model. See Prices Here. The new deluxe Maxi Micro scooters are available on Amazon for approx. £111 +. The standard Maxi Micro Scooter is slightly cheaper at around £104. The difference between the original Maxi and the new deluxe model is: New weight limit 70 kilos instead of 50 kilos, a new anodised stem to protect the scooter and an embossed Micro logo on the scooter deck.
3Style Scooters – RGS-2 Model
This scooter has an RRP of £99 but is currently on sale for £39.99. It is a well made scooter and at the current sale price is a lot cheaper that the Maxi Micro Scooter. Additional features include the spin and flash PU LED wheels which add an element of fun to the scooter.
One disadvantage when comparing this scooter to the Maxi Micro Scooter is the weight. This is a heavier scooter which means the scooter is harder to push and move around. This could be a problem for younger or lighter children.
This scooter can be folded which is useful for storage or putting in the boot of a car. The handlebars are height adjustable with a height range of 52 cm to 86cm. The newly designed plastic injection deck offers a maximum rider weight of 50 KG and there is a rear wheel step-on brake for slowing and stopping. Although we have included this scooter in our review of 3 wheel scooters, actually has 4 wheels. There are two wheels at the back which are very close together giving the effect of one big wheel. This gives the scooter extra stability for less confident riders. This scooter is available in 4 colours and is marketed as being suitable for children between the ages of 3 and 12 years old.
Yvolution Y Glider XL Deluxe Scooter
A third option is the less well known Yvolution Y Glider scooter. This is for children aged 5 to 9 so won’t be suitable for older children or very tall children. It is made of plastic and has rubber wheels so is a very quiet scooter to ride. The handle bar is height adjustable with a range of 89-99cm. The maximum rider weight is 40kg which is less that the two scooters above. The scooter is foldable for storage and transport.
This is a well made and light scooter which currently sells for just over £60. Current price on Amazon.
